General Information

The dark brown outer cross-band, on the otherwise plain straw-white forewing is diagnostic. The band is pinched in two places, forming three dark brown blotches extending outwards from the cross-line. The blotch near the leading edge us only linked by a thin cross-line, but the other blotches are often merged. There is a conspicuous central dot on all four wings.

 

Pupates in loose earth.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 10-11mm.

Flying: Two generations, late May-July and late July-late September

Woodland rides and edges and hedgerows.
