General Information

Very local and rare in Bulgaria, where it is known from a very restricted area in the Eastern Stara Planina (where these photos were taken). Like the Spinose Skipper (Muschampia cribrellum) it is restricted in Europe to a few areas of Eastern Europe, but where it can be locally common.

 

It is very similar to its co-gener the Spinose Skipper, but is usually appreciably larger, which is a useful initial identification feature when one is familiar with both species. Another distinguising feature is illustrated in the comparison picture shown above.
