General Information

Widespread in Bulgaria wherever there are damp grassy herbaceaous places, especially near water, but always in small numbers. Even find it on road verges and several times we have recorded it when we have stopped at a roadside service station!

 

In Bulgaria it is represented by the sub-species rutilus

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.

Wingspan: M: 44-48mm, F: 46-52mm
Foodplant(s): Water Dock (Rumex hydrolapathum)
Flying: One generation, early July-mid August
UK Presence: Resident

Habitat

pen damp grassy herbaceous meadows and other habitats. Even small damp areas may host this species

Recorded in 47 (2.5%) of the 1900 10km squares of Bulgaria.
