General Information

Widespread and sometimes common in the mountains up to at least 2000m. 

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.

Wingspan: M: 38-46mm, F: 43-47mm
Foodplant(s): Common Dog-violet (Viola riviniana), Heath Dog-violet (Viola canina), Marsh Violet (Viola palustris), violets (Viola spp.)
Flying: One generation from late April to late July
UK Presence: Resident

Habitat

Most common in sub-alpine meadows and glades amongst coniferous forest, but also amongst deciduous forest at lower (moderate) altiudes. Frequently encountered in areas with a calcareous substrate.

Regional Information

Recorded in 27 (1.4%) of the 1900 10km squares of Bulgaria.
