General Information

The position of the dark black/brown markings on the forewing identify this moth. They form a central band and extend along the leading edge to the thorax. The intensity of the markings varies.

 

Pupates amongst plant debris on the ground.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.
Often disturbed during day

Forewing length: 9-11mm.
Foodplant(s): Ivy (Hedera helix), Traveller's-joy (Clematis vitalba), Golden Alyssum (Aurinia saxatilis)
Flying: One/two generations, late June-late August and mid September-late October
UK Presence: Resident, Possible Immigrant

Habitat

Gardens, heathland, fens, scrub, grassland and chalk embankments.
