General Information

Widespread in the mountains but very localised and generally rare in Bulgaria, far less common than its cogener the Pearl-bordered Fritillary (Boloria euphrosyne).

Overwinters as Overwinters as a larva.

Wingspan: M: 35-41mm, F: 38-44mm
Foodplant(s): Common Dog-violet (Viola riviniana), Marsh Violet (Viola palustris), violets (Viola spp.)
Flying: One generation, late June - July
UK Presence: Resident

Habitat

Damp or boggy meadows, woodland glades and ski runs runs at moderate altitudes, often near streams or lakes. It also occurs very locally at high altitudes in some sheltered damp grassy hollows and valleys near streams.

Recorded in 6 (0.3%) of the 1900 10km squares of Bulgaria.
