General Information

The vernacular name of this species comes from the remarkable crustacean-like appearance of the caterpillar.

 

Pupates in spun leaves or on the ground.

 

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Male readily comes to light, sometimes in numbers. Female not.

Forewing length: 24-33mm.
Foodplant(s): birches (Betula spp.), Alder (Alnus glutinosa), oaks (Quercus spp.), Beech (Fagus sylvatica)
Flying: One generation, mid May-July
